Preparing for the Storm

An easy way to tell if someone grew up in the Midwest is to see how they react to a tornado siren. While most people would seek shelter, if someone pulls up a chair and watches the storm roll in, you’ve found the Midwesterner!

During our recent storm that brought us near 100mph winds, tornado warnings, and lots of property damage, I found myself sitting watching as I normally would. I had a sudden thought, what if the storm really hits me?

The systems we have in place to warn us about potential disasters like tornadoes and floods are a major achievement that undoubtedly save lives, but have these warnings desensitized us to the dangers? The sole purpose of a warning system is to give us time to appropriately prepare for the coming storm and protect ourselves from the dangers they bring, so why do we bring out those chairs and watch as the tornadoes touch down?

As a Cyber Security Architect I can assure you; the storm is coming. Too many businesses do not heed the early warning systems from the Data Security world and end up shutting their doors for good when ransomware locks up their network and drains their resources. Make sure you are prepared!

Respectfully,

Todd Creek
