The day we weren’t prepared

Insights and Video Message from Todd Creek

Years ago, a shed on our family farm caught on fire.

By the time the fire was discovered, and we were miles from the nearest fire department, there was nothing we could do but watch it burn. Once the fire died out and the smoke cleared, we thought it was over, but the fire wasn’t the worst part as it turned out. Just a few weeks before, the insurance was canceled (because other expenses were thought to be more important) and the old thought of ‘it will never happen to me’ won out. We were not covered and had no plan for recovery from a disaster like this. Looking back, the cost of being prepared would have been cheaper on our wallets and minds than our recovery cost to rebuild it from the ashes.

I often hear, “we can’t afford the security” or “it’s not in the budget.” Then I think of our farm disaster that permanently ingrained in me to always have a plan for disaster, which in our Dura-Tech data security world, is a never-ending challenge. If you could see from my perspective the never-ending onslaught of sophisticated attack techniques that come from across the world you would be appalled. Sometimes it keeps me up at night thinking about how to stay prepared.

Our clients; banks, governments, schools, and businesses, rely on our Dura-Tech engineers to keep their data safe and their disaster recovery silos faultless. I will NEVER forget that fire and I will never say “it will never happen to me!”.

Respectfully,
Todd Creek
