On a seemingly normal Tuesday morning in January, I sat down at my desk with a fresh cup of coffee and pulled up my emails to find a Cybersecurity Advisory from the National Security Agency (NSA). A vulnerability was discovered by the NSA affecting Windows 10 and Windows Server along with any applications that rely on Windows for trust functionality. With this, hackers would be able to to sign a malicious executable, making it appear the file was from a trusted, legitimate source. Needless to say, this widespread vulnerability was a critical and time sensitive piece of information!
Immediate threat response can make the difference for any business. With no patch available from Microsoft at the time and not known yet to the general public, this vulnerability was actively being exploited by hackers.
